Fuego is a very old boy, 17 actually!! He is a shephard-ish mix and lives with his owner Gilly.
Sadly, about a year ago Fuego was diagnosed with having tumours in his stomach, unfortunately there is nothing the vets can do for him.
For Gilly, looking after Fuego is almost a full time job, she comes home from work in her lunchbreak to get him up and out in the garden, or for a walk if he's having a good day. He doesn't sleep well at night and needs to be helped back onto his feet a lot of the time.
Fuego doesn't let his illness stop him, he still goes out for walks (be it slow ones!) and loves sunning himself in the garden.
When I went round to shoot Fuego he was in a lovely sunny spot in the garden, he's not too good on his back legs and wobbles alot. Gilly helped him move to a nicer spot in the garden, he plonked himself down and he was ready!
It was a very quick shoot as I didn't want him to get uncomfortable in one position for a long time, I don't think he was worried though, as long as Gilly was throwing gravy bones for him he seemed happy!
I love photographing the 'oldies', I always think they have such character in their faces. They are usually quite stubborn too, but hey, I think they've earnt the right!!
