Kush is a 13 year old German Shepard who we got 2 weeks after Pneuma in September 2010. Her owner had come into my Mum's shop pleading with Mum to help him out. He had got evicted from his home and was put into housing that didn't allow pets, so Kush had been living in his car. The car was full of debris, old paint pots, clothes, big bans etc and Kush. It was a pitiful site. She was covered in fleas, her gums were grey because the fleas had sucked all the blood from her. She needed a bath and flea treatment asap.
Mum agreed to help and asked Many Tears if they would house her until she got adopted. They agreed so we told Kush's owner to bring her round that night. The first thing we did was take her upstairs for a bath. It took a long time for the water to run clear again, it was red, red from all the blood the fleas were sucking out of her. We had never seen anything like it. She had big clumps of flea dirt and the amount of fleas on her was unbelievable. If she was left in this state any longer she would have died.
After speaking to Many Tears Mum decided to keep Kush, she wasn't strong enough to travel to Wales and Mum was doubtful that anyone would want to take on such an old dog. It took a long time for Kush to settle in, she missed her owner terribly and didn't want much to do with us. Over the passing weeks she gained our trust and started to enjoy herself.
She loves her walks, even though she is very stiff on her front legs and she loves my Mum. All our dogs are on a RAW diet and Kush loves it. She'll do anything for a meaty bone! She is such a gentle giant and takes everything in her stride.
